He did his internship and Junior House Officer jobs at Princess Alexandra Hospital before spending a year as a Senior House Officer at the Frenchay Plastic Surgery Unit in Bristol. He returned to Australia performing a year of General Surgery before beginning advanced training in Plastic Surgery at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Royal Brisbane Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital. He finished his training with a year in London at Mount Vernon in 1992. Acting as a Senior Registrar in a busy plastic surgical unit he covered the full gamut of plastic surgery procedures but specially focussed on facial reanimation surgery. Dr Kennedy went on to do a Cosmetic Fellowship at the Wellington Hospital in London before returning to Australia to set up private practice in mid 1993. Since that time, he has worked as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Mater Adults Hospital in Brisbane and run a successful private practice specialising in the areas of facial and breast surgery. Dr Kennedy is trained in both cosmetic procedures as well as general plastic surgical procedures. Traditionally people looked to plastic surgeons for their cosmetic procedures; indeed these cosmetic procedures have generally grown out of reconstructive operations and have been modified for cosmetic benefit. The techniques, anatomy and philosophies emanating from plastic and reconstructive surgery enhance the surgeon's ability to obtain a fine result in cosmetic procedures and also to manage complications whether they be infective, wound healing problems or nerve palsies.
